Affiliate Marketing: Are You Taking Notes?
Studies show that people forget up to 80 percent of what they hear within 20 minutes of hearing it, unless what you hear is written down. When you're trying to make money through affiliate marketing, this preventable forgetfulness can prove problematic. Every time you forget something about affiliate marketing because you weren't taking notes, you are losing money.
Why is remembering stuff so important for affiliate marketers?
No Need to Reinvent the Wheel
You may be sick of the cliché "there's no need to reinvent the wheel," but when it comes to affiliate marketing, there is no truer statement. So many people have created so many effective tools and tricks of the trade that if you're doing things on your own, you're usually being dumb.
Let's take a site like KnowEm.com as an example. KnowEm is a site where you can secure your brand across multiple social media outlets, including Twitter, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Technorati, and Faves.com.
Basically what you do at KnowEm.com is you input your online brand name--say, Ace Affiliates--and then KnowEm goes and reserves Ace Affiliates at all the major (and minor) social media hot spots. This process of protecting your brand online would be a complete pain in the rear end if you went and manually went to every site to input your information and start an account. With KnowEm, this process takes about five minutes and you're covered.
We would have never remembered this cool little tool if we hadn't been taking notes at the Affiliate Summit. We would have thought KnowEm was cool, and then forgotten all about it as we went and searched for more coffee.
Affiliate Marketing Success Is a Slow Build
It's so funny how scammers try to portray affiliate marketing as a get rich quick scheme. Maybe at a certain point in the Internet's infancy getting rich quick through affiliate marketing was possible, but nowadays, you can rest assured that getting rich is going to take some time.
Speaking of taking some time, the other reason why taking notes is such an incredibly valuable habit for the affiliate marketer is that there are many times in the affiliate marketing business when you don't have much going on, and are not sure what to work on.
In reality, this "downtime" and how you use it can mean the difference between success and failure, but if you don't have a written record that you can run through as to what tasks and ideas you might want to be exploring right now, you may just sit there and aimlessly surf the Net.
Sitting there and aimlessly surfing the Net is not going to get you rich. Give your downtime some upside by running through your notes and being productive. Note by note, you can create a symphony of affiliate marketing profitability that will stand the test of time.
The blank page, by contrast, is an always formidable enemy.
